4pm-6pm: Film Screening “TAKING ROOT: THE VISION OF WANGARI MAATHAI” a feature documentary by Lisa Merton & Alan Dater about Wangari Maathai the Kenyan activist who went on to become the first environmentalist and also the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize (2004). pm: LIVE MULTIMEDIA AND MUSIC PERFORMANCE, by Leon Patel, Holly Prest and Kooj Chuhan interacting live with the installation and reflecting the themes of carnival and environmental justice. The host for the evening is the poet and activist Sai Murray, plus a guided tour of the enviro-art installation “Chamada From Chico Mendes”, interviews incl questions and answers about the work and a live link with Brazilian environmentalists. Weds 11th March, 7-9.30pm, open to adults and older teenagers:
WORKSHOP: ‘Using Digital Media Techniques with Stories and Performance’
Learn and create with digital artist Kooj Chuhan and musician Holly Prest; use VJ software, spoken words and live drumming during this evening workshop. Have fun, be creative, try something new, interact with environmental justice themes, meet like-minded people. All equipment provided but you are welcome to bring your own computers, musical instruments, or whatever. Participants should have some knowledge of computers and video, at least a bit further than complete beginners. Please get in touch if any questions at all. Numbers limited so book soon! It would have been a good idea to make it a bit easier to find out where this Global Grooves Arts Centre actually is. In all your numerous email notifications plus reminders as well as in this website it’s not easy to find it in all of the cluttered info stuff. An address on top of everything else would have been helpful. Given that it is in Mossley (Tameside) means that it turns out to be quite a journey for someone without a car .. well i.e. a postcode or until what time are trains going back to e.g. Manchester on Saturday night is something one needs to find out.
